Finally, MIT seems to be unsurpassed as the highest-ranking university in the world, holding the top spot this year for a record seventh year in a row. Also at third and fourth respectively, MIT gets its highest scores for its reputations with academics and employers.
Stanford retains its position as of last year, achieving its best scores for academic and employer reputation (fifth for both).
3. Harvard University
As of the 2019 results, Harvard continues to rank third in the world, but remains the world's leading employer and academic reputation.
4. California Institute of Technology (Caltech)
Caltech, the smallest university in the top 10, retains this year's fourth place in the world. Students are enjoying an excellent student / faculty ratio, and Caltech is also beating rival MIT in quotes per faculty member indicator, ranked fifth in the world.
5. University of Oxford
The results of 2019 see Oxford overtake Cambridge in our list of the best universities in the world, climbing one place to rank fifth in the world and first out of the UK's 76 entries, with top 10 scores for their academic and employer reputations as well as their faculty / student ratio.
6. University of Cambridge
Cambridge University slips one place in this year's ranking but achieves higher scores than Oxford's rival for his reputation among academics and employers, ranked second in the world after Harvard for both.
